Payten Schibbelhute Named National High School Player of the Week

After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Payten Schibbelhute has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Schibbelhute plays for Piedmont High School in Piedmont, Okla. Schibbelhute helped lead Piedmont to the 5A state tile in Oklahoma, which marked the third consecutive state title for the Wildcats.
Schibbelhute pitched all three games in the state tournament for Piedmont and posted a 0.33 earned run average.
She opened the state tournament by leading Piedmont to a 3-0 victory over Durant. She went seven innings and allowed just three hits while striking out two batters.
In the state semifinal, Schibbelhute recorded another complete-game shutout as she allowed only three hits and struck out five as the Wildcats downed Elgin 4-0.
Piedmont staged a dramatic rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 3-2 win over Guthrie in the state championship game. Schibbelhute went the distance in the circle and Peyton Gray hit a walk-off two-run single giving the Wildcats the victory.
Piedmont ended the season with a 39-3 overall record and became the first large school (5A-6A) in the state of Oklahoma to win three consecutive state championships in 20 years and became the first 5A school to ever three-peat.
Schibbelhute was brilliant in the state tournament during her Piedmont career as she was 9-0 with a 0.70 ERA and five shutouts in nine games.
